Nintendo’s NES Classic Edition went on sale today, and it’s sold out everywhere

Nintendo made a great move just in time for the Holiday season. The NES Classic Edition is a mini-fied version of the original Nintendo Entertainment System, only it does not use cartridges and comes with 30 classic NES games pre-installed.

The NES surrounded many of our childhood years and the item is already showing much popularity. The item went on sale today at Best Buy, Game Stop, and Target stores in the US (with more retailers like Walmart coming soon), as well as Amazon online. The item is already sold out at the retailers mentioned above. Many have seen people waiting at the store before it opened to ensure they get their hands on it. Likewise, there is no stock left on Amazon and the device is completely sold out online.

The Amazon page for the NES Classic went live at around 5PM EST this afternoon, in mere minutes the item became sold out on Amazon and the item’s page crashed under the immense demand of thousands of fans trying to get their hands on one. That’s a huge deal since Amazon’s resources are pretty capable of handling immense amounts of traffic. As of 6:45PM EST on Nov 11, the page still isn't back up

Nintendo of America has tweeted about the item’s overwhelming demand and has ensured fans that there will be a “steady flow of additional systems through the holiday shopping season and into the new year”.

There are already listings on eBay with ridiculous asking prices in the thousands of dollars. Auctions are reaching upwards of $600 for an item that otherwise costs $60. The demand is real with the NES Classic and Nintendo will be making a lot of money this Holiday season. Let’s hope there’s enough of the Nintendo Switch to go around once it comes out.
